Keep Calm with Chamomile

Nothing to Sneeze At

In addition to warmer temperatures and new growth, spring brings longer days and some dreaded allergens.

Higher temperatures, greater moisture, and increased light will encourage all plants to grow, and of course that can bring on sneezing, sniffling, and itchy eyes.  Instead of encouraging allergy sufferers to invest in Kleenex, fill a prescription, or purchase an over-the-counter nasal spray, we at Earth's Organics would naturally prefer for you to go … well, natural!

There's an App Oil for That

We know that essential oils rock, and I'd like to highlight one that can minimize the effects of those irritating springtime allergies. A lovely flowering herb, chamomile has natural anti-inflammatory properties, which make its essential oil great against those beastly histamines. If you suffer from allergies, try adding a few drops each of chamomile essential oil and witch hazel to a spray bottle filled with cool water, and spritz your skin throughout the day for a refreshing, clean scent that will also cool you off.  Chamomile essential oil makes an excellent addition to an evening bath, and it can easily be added to your favorite shampoo, conditioner, or body lotion.

Tea Time

I also love chamomile for its soothing, relaxing, and anti-anxiety properties. As the days get longer, and we start to add more activity to our days, it can be harder to wind down at the end of the day. Chamomile tea is well-known for promoting calm and relaxation. Boulder, Colorado’s Celestial Seasonings makes some great organic teas, or you can always create your own blend by just adding a couple drops of chamomile essential oil to tea or hot water and maybe a little lemon. Herbal teas taste terrific iced as we move into warmer weather.

Don't let the onset of springtime set off your allergies. Keep calm and carry on.
